What kind of cleaner fish to put in tank with fantail goldfish?

HI Beebler, apart from ‘cleaner’ type fish [Plecos/algae eaters/suckers/Catfish etc etc] being to lesser or greater extents incompatible with Goldfish there is also the question of what they actually eat. Despite the myths they DO NOT eat poop, dead plants & other loose tank debris-you have to remove that by regular maintenance whatever you keep in your tank, even alage is only eaten by these types of fish when they are starving & badly looked after. What they WILL do very well is add considerably to your bio-load by pooping & in a small tank this is going to reach critical levels, many of them will also strip the slime coats off your sleeping Goldfish leaving them vulnerable to infection & disease. These creatures should never be kept purely for their ‘garbagman’ potential but rather you should keep them because you want to & then only after you have done your research.
