What Kind of Charcoal Should Be Used?

Use good quality charcoals such as Royal Oak or Kingsford. We have found that certain major supermarket brands (Safeway and Giant) work just as well. Other off-brand or generic brand charcoals may not produce sufficient heat for cooking. We have had poor results with FoodLion brand charcoal. Do not use MatchLite (Kingsford), Easy-Light or other pre-soaked charcoals containing lighter fluids. This will cause an uncontrollable fire, burn finish, and void warranty. We have found the lump charcoal provides adequate heat, but burns too fast. Once nice thing about the charcoal model is that it may be filled up before the trip to avoid carrying along a separate bag of charcoal.
