What kind of care do goats require?
Goats can get along with horses but depends on the goat and the horse; some horses are scared of goats and may get aggressive, and then some goats are mean and pushy. Goats need much better fencing than horses do. If you let them out of the pasture they will eat your trees, shrubs, flowers and vegetables and possibly jump on your car and in general be annoying but adorable, depending on the breed and age. They have a lot of personality. Goats need brush and weeds rather than plain grass, so if you have a smallish grassy pasture – depending on the productivity of the pasture – you’d probably need to supplement with hay. We give a little grain, about 1 cup per day. You’ll also need to give them minerals (goat-specific), probably worm them, and do regular hoof-trimming. We do our own vaccinations. The biggest expense is fencing and shelter. If you already have good fencing and gates and some barn space and can get hay at good prices, they aren’t expensive. We’ve had to sell or give away m
