We follow lunar calendar (same as Jews) sight of new moon marks the beginning of month. one years will be of almost 354 days. Calemdars begins when Prophet Mohammed PBUH migrated from Makkah to Madina. This is years 1429. surprisingly 9/11/2008 matches with 9/11/1429 of Islamic calnedar.
