What kind of calculators are required for the Mathematics test?
Graphing calculators are not required for any grade, but we have traditionally recommended them. If using graphing calculators, TAs must ensure that all programs and applications must be cleared from the calculators before beginning a test. The purpose for removing programs and applications is to level the playing field. Programs can be written and copied to other calculators that will automatically solve equations, and lists of notes can be written as programs; also many applications from TI can be downloaded from their web site. This clearing of the memory is standard practice for AP tests. In general, a scientific calculator would be all that is needed. Calculators used during testing should be those used during instruction so they are familiar to students.
