What kind of band does BandMusic PDF refer to?
A. It refers to the concert or marching band during the time of Sousa and others, sometimes called a “Military Band.” The music was published to accommodate a balance of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. According to one example of a published cover page, pieces were written to sound full with a minimum of 23 to 26 players for a basic “Military Band” set of music. A “Full Military Band” set containing more parts was also available, as was a set of saxophone parts, sold separately.
