What kind of backdrop and accessories for home studio?
Backdrops – not used Hi-lites, I tend to use muslin cloth on a support stand (which breaks down & packs away). Either would be fine, although a support stand then gives you options of changing b/g colours/textures, whereas you buy a collapsible & the material is part of it. If you’re going to be working exclusively indoors then mains powered studio flashes would be ok – cheap ‘bundles’ or 2 or 3 lights can be had along with modifiers (softbox or umbrella). For a small space indoors, 150 W/s to 250 W/s will be ample. However, you are then limiting yourselves to indoors only. Consider using a speedlight (hand held flash) based system. Fine for indoor and out door use & no wires trailing around (battery operated). These can be put on stands and have modifiers added to them just as with studio (mains) lights. Outdoor location shooting with your lighting gear then becomes possible. A couple of those will cost around £60 (something like the Yongnuo 560 are good – full manually adjustable). A
