I would like to reach out at least a mile, the farther the better. Wifi is designed to reach typically up to 1200 feet. You can extend a laptops ability to reach farther but you run the risk of the wireless access point you’re connecting to not being capable of responding back to you. A mile is what we have seen as a maximum range even when the Access Point is a commercial grade unit.
