What keeps the earths orbit around the sun?
It’s because the mass or weight of the Sun is bending space. Think of it like this, take a bed sheet and pull it tight at all 4 corners. Then place a soccer ball in the center of the sheet. You will see that as the ball sits on the sheet, the ball causes an indentation in the sheet where it sits. Now if you throw a smaller ball say a baseball, onto the sheet, it will fall towards the soccer ball and then pass it and then begin to revolve around the soccer ball as it follows the indentation on the sheet caused by the soccer ball. That is how a planet or star captures a wondering asteroid, comet or moon. The Earth traveling through space, wants to travel in a straight line but being stuck in the indentation of space, it revolves around the Sun. The Sun’s gravity on the Earth and the Earth’s gravity on the moon actually have nothing to do with any kind of pulling. It is the bending of space that causes objects to revolve around another object.
