What it is like growing up with Hypoparathyroidism?
Essay by Aleisha Sadorsky Hypoparathyroidism occurs when the parathyroid glands doesn’t work or when a person is born with out the glands another type is when the person get the glands removed for medical reasons. The parathyroid glands are pea size glands. The parathyroid glands tell the body how much calcium, magnesium to give to the body and how much to keep to the body, like the bones and blood. When you have Hypoparathyroidism you pee most of the calcium and magnesium out. The genetic form is very rare. I have the genetic form of this life treating condition. I was born with out parathyroid glands. Living with Hypoparathyroidism can be very challenging. In childhood I had many good times and bad times. I spent many extra years in school, because of all the times I spent in the hospital. I took a lot of medication, lots of doctor’s appointments, calcium and magnesium treatments and a lot of tests.
