This dose form of azithromycin is used as a single dose treatment for certain infections, including genital infections. How To Use Zithromax Mix the contents of the packet in 2 ounces of water (60ml). Drink this immediately. Add another 2 ounces of water, mix and drink the entire amount. This dose form of azithromycin may be taken with or without food. Do not take antacids and Zithromax at the same time, as antacids may interfere with absorption of azithromycin. Take antacids at least two hours after taking azithromycin. Zithromax Side Effects Zithromax may cause stomach upset, loose stools, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps or vaginal irritation.
