What is zion?
Nearly a quarter-million humans have escaped The Matrix. They literally unplugged themselves, banded together and formed the city of Zion near the center of the Earth, the last source of heat. (In an attempt to defeat solar-powered computers, armies “scorched the sky” and blocked out the sun.) Soldiers of Zion have learned to enter The Matrix, where they try to free the minds of other humans to aid the rebellion. They enter The Matrix via phone lines the way a computer uses a modem to access the Internet.
