Native Languages of the Americas does not take any position on any non-linguistic Indian issue. Our linguistic opinion is that Indian languages have been forcibly driven to the brink of extinction by aggressive assimilation, not just drifted into disuse, and that by maintaining the pride, prestige, and practicality of bilingualism, many of them can still be saved.
