DSL is a technology that can fit many specific communication needs. Each of the “types” of DSL serve a specific purpose. ADSL is generally a product for the home subscriber. The main characteristic is that the download speed is higher than the upload speed. SDSL serves the business customer. SDSL has the same speed downloading as uploading to the internet and this serves the business customer with access that is desirable. Other types of DSL technologies serve specific needs such as increased distance from the phone company central office for example. Home subscribers who want an SDSL connection can subscriber for that service.
