What is wrong with the translations on Rammstein s homepage?
A. The translations or Rammstein s page are normally close if not correct. The problem with them is that they are not literal (direct) translations. They have been modified so that they sound good with the music and so that you can sing them with the music. Though they sound good and rhyme they sometimes lose the meaning which is retained when you do a literal translation. For example take the line from the song Engel: “Gott weiss ich will kein Engel sein”. Their translation of it is “God damn not an angel when I die”, which doesn t even make sense. A true translation would be “God knows I don t want to be an angel”.
