What is wrong with our education system in the US?
There are so many problems with the USA education system that it is almost impossible to list them all. Here are three that really stand out: 1. The USA has a long and sordid history of anti-intellectualism. It has always been thought that you don’t need an education to forge out into the wilderness and “make your fortune,” or – in more recent times – to get a job on an assembly line making big bucks with no skills at all (think auto factory). Those jobs are gone, but our attitude about them isn’t. 2. The credentialing of teachers is controlled by the Teacher Colleges, which are a disgrace. Nothing happens in a “College of Education” that in any way resembles scholarship. A Master’s or Doctoral degree in Education is an absolute joke compared to one in any real field of study. 3. Beginning in junior high school, and continuing through undergraduate college, the academic dog is wagged by the athletic tail.
