A 4 year old, going on 5 year old ferret is a senior ferret. Ferrets have a tendency to get certain diseases, often all at once. These are 1) insulinoma (most common ferret tumor)- which drives body glucose down and ferrets will be lethargic, have seizures, salivate, and may have trances. 2) adrenal associated endocrinopathy, which is very common, ferrets will have a change in behavior, return to sexual behavior, different urination patterns, hair loss- it is diagnosed through blood screening, and can be treated through surgery or injections 3) Lymphoma, which can have different signs depending on the organ its affecting. These are the most common, but your ferret could have something else as well. A physical examination with abdominal palpation and bloodwork would be most helpful.
