What is wrong with Continental Kennel Club?

The sad thing is they require no previous registration. You can register a dog from a shelter or the humane society with the Continental Kennel Club. So obviously, it takes not credibility to do so. No one that responsibly breeds or rescues dogs advocates the CKC. Essentially they are out for people’s money. They known people are proud to have a registered dog and have taken advantage of that. However, that should not deter the fact that you love your dog and should take very good care of her! Just breeding her is not a good idea at all. Good luck with your new dog, BTW. I hope you both have a wonderful time together!

There are a number of things wrong with the continental kennel club. First off, they accept hand-written pedigrees and turn them into “real” pedigrees. They register mongrels, which I have nothing against mutts, but to have a registry service that registers them?? Registry is for pure-bred dogs- that’s the point of it. The entire organization is built around making money. The AKC is a business too, but they actually care about promoting pure-bred dogs through shows, activities, rescue work and legislative initiatives. The CKC is simply about collecting dollars for their business. Any dog with registration papers from the Continental Kennel Club are immediately suspect as not being pure-bred because they will register anything and most dogs in America that are pure-bred can be registered by legit registries if they can prove the three generation pedigree.

The ENTIRE POINT of registry in my mind is to have a record of the parentage- grandparents, great grandparents, and on back ad infinitum. This is useful in predicting many characteristics of an animal (this apply even more to livestock) IE: a lab with a pedigree festooned with FIELD CHAMPION & Senior Hunter description is more likely to be a good duck hunter than one that isn’t. This apply to health too in my breed there is some heart problems – and it mostly traces to one sire another muscular problem seems to trace to one pair of sisters ect (and YES I have had a vet asking “heard of any ___ disease in the family line” and know of a case where knowing this made the dignosis Well contenental kennel club actually will register a dog Unknown father Unknown mother worthless for finding out info on family and in fact I struggle to grasp the point of such registry at all….
