There are a few pretty places around Skibbereen. Take a trip out to Mizen Head (the most southerly point on the Irish Mainland): on the way there are Schull, Barley Cove and Crookhaven, there is a very pleasant beach in Barley Cove, and Mizen head itself is quite spectacular as I recall. Another trip you could make would be to Castletownbere, Beare Island and Dursey Island, passing by Glengariff on the way. Dursey Head has Ireland’s only cable car, you will remember it, I guarantee you! Glengarrif is also very pleasent. You could take a trip to Garnish Island as there are some very pretty gardens there. A short trip from “Skibb” will get you to Baltimore, a tiny fishing village that caters well for tourists. It has a really interesting history, and some fine pubs and restaurants.
