What is Working Women Artists?
Working Women Artists, Inc. (WWA) is a non-profit tax exempt organization whose purpose is to make women artists and their art more visible in the community. Working Women Artists, Inc. was founded in 1987 by Linda Kalinich Spyke and Barbara Channer Thomsen with the intent to organize women artists in the Mid-Michigan area and to overcome the isolation and lack of support which often confronts women in the arts. As of April 1996, WWA’s membership has grown to over 65 members. As a charitable organization, WWA works to help artists and other arts organizations in a variety of ways and provides arts education within the community. WWA holds several local exhibits each year, along with workshops and artist’s demonstrations.
