What is Wireless Fidelity, or Wi-Fi in short?
Wi-Fi is a technology that enables wireless transmission of data through the 2.4Ghz frequency band. It was first initiated by Wi-Fi Alliance. With Wi-Fi, mobile devices such as notebook computers, PDAs, mobile phones and intelligent phones can gain wireless access to the Internet. All Wi-Fi network standards have to be approved by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (or IEEE). Currently there are several standards such as IEEE 802.11b and IEEE 802.11g.
