What is wire theft and who can I contact about it?
As the prices for copper rise, the City experiences an increased rate of street light wire theft. This theft accounts for hundreds of thousands of taxpayers’ dollars per year for repairs and wire replacement. Furthermore, wire thieves often leave wires hanging out of the base of the street light, which could result in injury or death if someone accidentally touched the wires after dark, while they are live. Ultimately, stealing street light wires is a serious offense. If you witness anyone in the act of thieving wires from City property, please contact the RCMP at 911. If you notice that any street light cover near the base of a street light pole have been removed or there are wires hanging out of the street light pole, please contact Traffic Operations at 604-591-4338, so that we can arrange to repair any damage. To make any of the above requests, please submit your request online at our Report a Problem or Submit a Request page.
