What is wine? Can wine be made from other fruits except grapes?
A. Wine is an alcoholic beverage obtained from the fermentation of grape juice or ‘must’. The process of fermentation is the action of yeast on the sugars present in the grape juice producing alcohol and Carbon dioxide in the process. Technically we can obtain a similar beverage from any other fruit juice/pulp/nectar (source of sugars) but legally such efforts can’t be labelled as wine in the true sense as, by definition, wine is a natural product obtained from grapes. Hence we may have Saki (rice wine) and cider (from apples).
