Sheila Sekhar, Risala Bazar The answer to the first part is given above. WHITE PEPPER cannot be used as a substitute for red chilli powder as its taste and flavour is entirely different. Being a far milder spice it is good for continental preparations but white pepper will not be able to hold its own in rich Indian gravies. But in a mild tossed dish white pepper will be able to hold its own.
