What is Welcome to Country?
There two key differences between a Welcome to Country and an Acknowledgement of Country. A Welcome to Country is where a respected Elder or a representative of the local Aboriginal community welcomes delegates of meetings, conferences, forums, official openings and ceremonies and other events. Acknowledgement of Country is a sign of respect to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land at such events. This can be performed by anyone, such as the facilitator or chairperson of the meeting or event. You can access the Metropolitan Aboriginal Land Council website for further information.
