What is web filtering software?
Web filtering software is software that blocks specific sites on the Internet. The most common categories blocked are as follows: illegal activity/drugs, alcohol, hate/intolerance messages, tattoo sites, violence and violence related sites, pornography sites, and gambling sites. In some cases, passwords are assigned and the level of filtering can vary with the age level of the user. In other cases a tracking log is kept in order ascertain attempts of accessing blocked material, and an email is sent to parents notifying of these attempts. Some people view filtering software as censorship/freedom of speech violations, but others feel it is necessary to protect children from being exposed to material that is not morally sound.
