What Is Volunteer Work?
Volunteering is something people do of their own free will. Most of what we do really isnt voluntary. We have to go to work or we wont get a check to pay the bills. We have to cook dinner so we can feed our hunger. We have to sleep at night to renew our energy for all the things we have to do tomorrow. Volunteering is one of the most freewill activities anyone can imagine. It truly is our choice to be a volunteer. And there are opportunities for volunteering everywhere we look. National programs such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the Scouts of America rely on volunteers to continue their work with young people. Mission organizations such as Franciscan Volunteer Ministry and the Christian Appalachian Project look for people who can make long-term volunteer commitments. Schools, libraries, hospitals, and of course our own parishes are always in need of volunteers to aid their efforts.
