What is volunteer travel all about?
Volunteer travel allows people to immerse themselves in village life while making a contribution to a sustainable community project. It allows travellers to come much closer to the culture and the people in the countries where they’re travelling. Usually people volunteer for about four weeks, but it’s possible to volunteer for as much as three months or more. Who volunteers? Anyone with a spirit of adventure and the desire to give. It’s a very rewarding way of meeting and giving back to people who are very different from those in your home community, and you get an unparalleled glimpse into a diverse and fascinating culture. Where can I go? Antipodeans Abroad (Ph: (02) 9413 1522) sends volunteers to developing countries such as Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Peru, Ecuador, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and India. Most will be involved with teaching English, care work, building and renovation or community development work.
