Dr. George Thompson Ph.D. is the President and Founder of the Verbal Judo Institute. VERBAL JUDO is offered as a 2-day, 1-day or 1/2-day training program. Originally developed for law enforcement, Verbal Judo uses some of the key principles of Asian martial arts to help defuse potential confrontations. As in physical judo, the aim is to use an attacker’s own energy as a tool to gain control of the situation. In the the case of Verbal Judo, the energy isn’t physical, it’s anger. When under verbal attack, one who has been taught Verbal Judo attempts to “harmonize” with the attacker, using empathy, understanding and subtle pressure to redirect the anger in a more positive direction.
