What is varenicline (Chantix)?
In this study, you will receive varenicline (also called Chantix), which helps people stop smoking. It works by reducing craving and withdrawal symptoms while also blocking the pleasant effects of nicotine from smoking. This medication is approved by the FDA for smoking cessation. We prescribe this drug according to the normal dosage and administration guidelines of 1 mg twice daily for 12 weeks, after a one week period of gradually increasing to this dose.
