What is value stopping distance and definition. 3 factors for thinking distance and breaking distance!?
Stopping distance is the distance it takes for a car to stop from a specific speed. Say a child runs out in front of the car. If the stopping distance is less then the car-child distance, the car will stop in time. If not, the child will get hit by the car. The thinking distance is the distance travelled from when the person sees the danger to when they apply the breaks, whereas stopping distance is from when the brakes are applied to when the car actually stops. Things affecting thinking distance: -Speed of car (if you react in 0.2 seconds travelling at 50mph, you will have travelled further then reacting in the same time at 30mph) -Alcohol/drugs in the bloodstream -General response time of the person in question. Things affecting breaking distance: – the biggest factor is the speed the car is travelling (again). -Condition of the brakes.
