What is valsartan?
Valsartan is in a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. Valsartan keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow. Valsartan is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) or heart failure. It is also used to reduce the risk of death after a heart attack. Valsartan may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
