What is used for insulation?
With over 30 per cent of heat loss and gain occurring through the roof of a house, Sharland Oasis utilises more than twice as much roof insulation (R8 in total) as a standard home. Given the cost-effectiveness of insulation, this strategy will provide superior insulating performance in both winter and summer. The walls of Sharland Oasis comprise plantation timber frames with brick veneer and lightweight cement sheet claddings, and are insulated with a combination of batts and foil-coated polystyrene foam boards. 15mm Foilboard foil-faced polystyrene provides R1.23 insulation to external walls . The walls therefore achieve a total insulation rating of almost R3.5 when used in conjunction with wall batts. In standard construction R2.5 batts are generally used in the walls. Internal walls and the first floor structure have also been insulated with “rockwool” batts to reduce noise levels between different parts of the home.
