What is USAIDs budget for HIV/AIDS programs and how is it distributed?
In fiscal year 2008, USAID’s budget for HIV/AIDS programs was $3.3 billion and was allocated to more than 50 of the hardest hit developing countries around the world. Since the reauthorization of the Presidents Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief in July 2008, new U.S. goals in the global HIV/AIDS response include supporting treatment for at least 3 million people living with HIV/AIDS, preventing 12 million new infections, and supporting care for 12 million people infected with and affected by HIV, including 5 million orphans and vulnerable children.
