What is USA Track & Field?
A2. USATF is the national governing body for long distance running, cross country, race walking and track & field. This means it is a rule-making and enforcing organization. Without rules athletes are unable to compete fairly, achieve standards or set records. USATF is also heavily involved in developmental programs for youth athletes and post-collegiate elite athletes. It is the only long distance running, cross country, race walking and track & field organization recognized by the U.S. Olympic Committee.
USA Track & Field is the national governing body of track & field. USATF membership is required for participation in Sherwood Track Club. Membership provides athletes, coaches, parents and fans of track & field the opportunity to show their support of our sport while receiving a wide range of benefits. Membership is included in club registration fee. WHAT ABOUT PRACTICES? The STC practice season begins Monday, March 9. All practices will be held at the Sherwood Middle School track. Practices are held rain or shine. Please refer to our calendar for the complete STC schedule. Note–schedule is subject to change. During track season please be willing to check your e-mail on a daily basis. Because we have so many participants, this is the easiest way for us to communicate with you. Please show up at the track 10 minutes early to get a warm-up run in. Athletes need to be picked up promptly at the end of practice. Please inform your coach if you need to miss a practice. USA Track & Field (USATF) is the national governing body of track & field. Before any athlete can compete in a USATF-sanctioned meet, whether as a member of the Saints or not, he/she must first become a member of USATF. Included in the Saints club fee is the cost of the athlete’s USATF membership. Any athlete wishing to join the Saints must, after paying the club fee, complete a USATF membership application and return it to the club along with proof-of-age verification, such as a copy of a birth certificate, state or military I.D. card, or driver’s license. The athlete is encouraged to apply for their USATF membership as soon as possible to ensure that they have their USATF membership card (usually called a “USATF card” or sometimes, by summer track veterans, a “TAC card”) in hand before their first meet. What are Youth Athletic and Junior Olympic meets? Both Youth Athletic and Junior Olympic meets are sanctioned by USA Track & Field, and the same events are offered in both. Athletes i
