Urea hydrogen peroxide is a combination of urea and hydrogen peroxide which releases hydrogen peroxide locally on application. Urea hydrogen peroxide is a well-known commercial product useful as an antiseptic and disinfectant in treatment of wounds, for bleaching hair, and as a readily biodegradable and environmentally safe bleaching agent, detergent and cleaning agent. The most commonly used dental bleaching agent is carbamide peroxide , also called urea hydrogen peroxide, hydrogen peroxide carbamide, and perhydrol-urea. Carbamide peroxide has been used by dental clinicians for several decades as an oral antiseptic. Tooth bleaching was an observed side effect of extended contact time.
