What is United Way doing to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina?
United Way of Metropolitan Nashville worked closely with local chapters of the American Red Cross and its other partner agencies, supporting evacuee relief efforts here in Tennessee and doing what we do best — providing financial and organizational support to those answering community needs. Additionally, we worked with WKRN News 2 and Nashville Public Television (Npt) Channel 8 to jointly produce A Community United for Hurricane Relief, an hour-long prime time telethon that aired live on September 16, 2005. The event raised $21,640 which was invested by United Way of Metropolitan Nashville in trauma intervention and counseling, food, transitional and permanent housing, transportation, job training and placement, child care, and other services often required by families starting over.
