What is unicellular protista respiration?
The Protista represent the simpliest form of eukaryotic life in that they are unicellular (they have a single cell). This is not, however, to say that they are not complex and diverse. Despite being unicellular, protistans carry out all of the life processes you would expect in a living organism: acquire nutrition, respiration (breathing), digestion, reproduction, etc. There is also a great diversity among the Protista, including species that are colonial and even some that are multicellular. An important comparative to keep in mind is the size of the cells of protistans relative to the size of cells of mutlicellular eukaryotes (plants, animals, and fungi). While protistan cells have to carry out all of the basic life processes, the cells of multicellular eukaryotes are specialized to perform specific functions.
