What is twine and whats it made of?
I do believe you are thinking of “cordage”. That’s the general term for handmade twine. It also sounds like you want to make natural cordage. The basic technique is called “the reverse twist” or “reverse twisting” as apposed to braiding. The most common methods are double reverse and triple reverse. You have to see it to learn it (I will post some sites). Cordage can be made out of various parts of plant and tree fibers such as the inner or outer bark, the stalks, even some leaves, such as palm fronds. I have even made cordage out of the coconut husk fibers. Animal hides, can be cut into long strips or animal tendons (sinew) can be pounded with a smooth stone and both be made into cordage with the reverse twist method. The types of raw materials you use and how you prepare them will depend on where you live and/or what is available to you. For making larger twine or rope, just take a long piece of completed cordage and fold it in half and begin again (this can be repeated numerous time
