What is TV-Turnoff Week?
TV-Turnoff is a nation-wide campaign started in 1994 by the TV-Turnoff Network in Washington D.C. Through various projects and support materials they encourage children and adults to watch much less television in order to promote healthier lives and communities. The campaign is based on the belief that we all have the power to determine the role that television plays in our own lives. Rather than waiting for others to make “better” TV, we can turn it off and reclaim time for our families, our friends, and for ourselves. TV-Turnoff Week is an easy and effective program which reminds people to put TV viewing in proper perspective. TV is fine — in moderation. Participants hear the message and they have the opportunity to experience it themselves, and hopefully provide long lasting results.
