According to the Fiske Guide to Colleges 2006, the ACT range for admitted freshman is 27-31, so you’re right in the middle of that range. It doesn’t say anything specifically about GPA, but yours sounds solid. The fact that you’re volunteering, taking honors/AP classes, etc. leads me to think that you’d have a reasonably good chance at acceptance at Tufts. They accept 1/3 of all applicants, so they are competitive but not at the Princeton-type level (accepting about 10% of applicants.) Remember, though, that all of the top/second tier schools in the country are receiving many more applications and it’s overall much more competitive than it was 10 years ago. So you can never be sure. Make sure you visit the campus and let them know in a variety of ways that you are interested. If they still offer early decision or early action options, consider those if you’re certain this is the school for you…it boosts your chances at admission (assuming you’re qualified in the first place.)
