What is transmission latency and how will it affect my service?
Think of transmission latency as the amount of time it takes a packet of data to travel across a network. Satellite service involves data traveling all the way up to the satellite and back (about 45,000 miles). This distance (round trip) adds about a half-second delay to the total time your computer takes to communicate with a Web site or host server. Therefore, time-sensitive applications that require no variations from the ideal speed and that require fractions-of-a-second user inputs (such as certain multi-player games or real-time equities trading) are not recommended with HughesNet®. HughesNet® Home Service is not compatible with VPNs.
