What is trance?
Trance is simply a state of mind. It is an altered state in some respects but it is always a natural state. We’re in different trances throughout the day. We have our work trance, our relationship trance or the zone that athletes so often find themselves in etc. Different states of minds for different things we do. It is a way of direct communication or access to the subconscious mind, bridging the gap between the conscious and the unconscious. Daydreaming or reverie are examples of other naturally occurring trance states.
Trance is a reference to conscious awareness. As one enters trance, external awareness is reduced. This has often been mistaken for hypnosis since as a person enters trance and reduces their outward awareness, they become more susceptible to suggestions. This is why there are many levels of suggestible trance. The deeper the trance, the more suggestible a person becomes. Trance thus covers a wide territory. Anytime your mind is not outwardly focused on your surroundings, it is referred to as a ‘trance’. So, if you are daydreaming or engrossed in a movie for instance, it is considered a trance. Just about any time you are not paying attention, you are considered by many to be in a state of trance. That means pretty much all the time you are in some sort of a state of ‘trance’. Now, any time you are not paying attention (you are in a trance) you are also slightly more susceptible to suggestions. Eventually, a deep enough trance will allow similar suggestibility to a state of hypnosis. Th
A. Several religions use Trance in their rituals including Y Dynion Mwyn. During a drumming ritual for the Old Ones, a Guardian or God/dess may be persuaded to join the ritual by entering the body of one of the priest/esses consecrated to that God/dess or Guardian. This is referred to as the person being “touched” by the Guardian or that the Guardian has “come down” from Gwlad yr Hav to be with us. The songs, rhythms and dances are actually calculated to entreat the Old Ones to come so that we may be blessed by their counsel, cleansings and their sheer presence. Any priest or priestess who has experienced being “touched” will tell you the profound feelings of joy and wisdom that accompany the presence of these great spiritual beings known as Old Ones.
Trance is a natural altered state of consciousness that we all zone into several times during our waking hours. Its when we temporarily switch off to gaze out of a window, only half listen to what is being said, dream about being on a beach while sitting on a tube or (more worryingly) while we are driving a car. WHAT IS HYPNOSIS Hypnosis is the act of deliberately accessing the trance state, either by oneself (self-hypnosis) or with a hypnotherapist. WHY HYPNOTHERAPY A hypnotist does stage acts for fun. A professionally trained hypnotherapist such a myself is bound by a strict code of ethics to be available to a client only for their positive benefit. Hypnotherapy allows the client to access the natural trance state while listening to positive suggestions that will help them to solve their particular problem.
