What is traditional immunotherapy?
Traditional immunotherapy is commonly referred to as allergy shots. Extracts are prepared for the specific offending allergens for each patient. The extracts are injected into the arm starting in very small doses. As the dose is increased slowly, the bodys immune system undergoes a shift so that it is desensitized to the allergens. Traditional immunotherapy has been practiced in this country for decades with very good results. The injections must initially be given in the physicians office because there is a small chance of a serious allergic reaction.
