What is TORP’s benefit to Alabama and the region?
Like the rest of the nation, Alabama has a shortfall of natural gas and currently is a net importer of natural gas. By having a ready source of clean-burning energy, existing and future industries can be assured of uninterrupted and affordable operations. Projections have also indicated that the additional natural gas supplies that the Bienville Terminal would bring to the state could cause the wholesale price of natural gas to decrease as much as five cents per decatherm. In addition, TORP has already demonstrated its commitment to being a good neighbor and good corporate citizen, providing funding to coastal communities for hurricane relief efforts. TORP has pledged to improve the environment of coastal Alabama and will soon unveil its plan in detail. Further, an economic impact study conducted by Dr. Semoon Chang, director of the Center for Business and Economic Research at the University of South Alabama, indicated that the Bienville Terminal will result in 211 new direct jobs and
