What is tooth decay and how fillings are done?
Tooth decay is a localised destruction of the structure of the tooth by acids, which are produced from bacteria in the mouth. If unchecked, the enamel can decay and create a cavity. In filling teeth, the decayed part of the tooth is removed (by drilling) and replaced with a restorative material such as silver alloy, gold, porcelain, or composite resin.
