What Is Toe Nail Fungus Infection?
Toe nail fungus infection (also known as Onychomycosis) is caused by a species of fungi known as Dermatophytes. These nasty micro organisms thrive in moist and warm environments such as the insides of your shoes. They infect you by penetrating the skin through minor cuts on your toes or the space between the nail and nail bed. While the effects of Onychomycosis varies according to the age, length of infection and immunity of a person, they do share these common characteristics and symptoms: * thickening of the toe nail * brittle, crumbly or ragged * distorted in shape * dull coloring, with no luster or shine * darkening, caused by the build up of debris under the nail * separation from the nail bed (also known as onycholysis) * pain * foul odor If you notice these symptoms on your nails, chances are you have contracted the infection and need to take immediate steps to cure it.
