The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Block Grant Program is a federally funded grant program to improve the health of mothers and children. Also often called Title V, the program was authorized by Title V of the Social Security Act of 1935. The Title V Block Grant funds states to develop the infrastructure and activities for maternal and child health through Formula Block Grants. You can make a difference in the health of women, children and families! Formula Block Grants fund states to develop partnerships and infrastructure-building activities likely to help the state improve on 18 national measures related to Title V maternal and child health challenges. In addition, each state selects up to 10 state measures and 10 priorities to guide “MCH efforts. The process of selecting state measures and priorities occurs every five years as part of a comprehensive needs assessment process.
