What is thrombolysis?
Thrombolysis is a procedure used to break up abnormal blood clots that restrict blood flow in veins and arteries. We use two types of thrombolysis. • Chemical thrombolysis: We inject a medication, such as tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) or urokinase, through a catheter to dissolve the clot. • Mechanical thrombolysis: We use a machine to break up and suction out the clot.
