What is this stuff about GigaSpaces on Amazon EC2?
The Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) is a web service that provides resizable compute capacity in the “cloud”. It is designed to make web-scale computing easier for developers. You create an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) with your application and then deploy it on the Amazon hosted servers. You pay per-usage – on a CPU per hour basis. The smallest servers cost $0.10 per hour, and larger ones are available. GigaSpaces has created an AMI for GigaSpaces XAP. You can find it here. By running GigaSpaces on the Amazon EC2 service you can minimize your upfront investment in both software and hardware – you just pay for usage on an hourly basis.
